Massive Homebush Loop

Sunday, December 27, 2015

Local Tym Blackwell promised a Sunday LR involving uninterrupted bike tracks, two bridges, water views, century old mansions, dirt trails and get this ... horses. Couldn't resist this offer and thus my usual CP loop with HuRTS is for next week.

Morning kicked off 6am King Georges, straight up the main road across Gladesville Bridge then the water-side bike track along Putney. Very relaxed vibe with Sydney still in slumber.

Leg-wise, felt tired but niggle free. Big improvement vs last week helped in part by added Boxing Day feasting. TB led us westward to Meadowbank before crossing the train bridge and into Rhodes making 15km. I'll admit wanting to put the feet up here but turns out this was not even half way.

Highlight was soft dirt trails lining the shore, mingled with some $$ real estate. Faster pace, maybe 4:45s battling the headwind but not enough to break the spirit. The promised climax (horses) never eventuated. All I saw was empty paddocks. I'll let TB off the hook in the spirit of Xmas but like promising a pony ride to a child, it's a situation difficult to forgive.

Last 7km a bit of a slug down Queens Road back to the Bay Run. By this stage I was tempted to ask for a piggy back but TB assured me he was equally fatigued. Stumbled home much wiser on a few topics including (i) how to raise chickens in the backyard and (ii) retirement living plans - Breakfast Point is a good option.

33km all up in 2:40 at 4:50 min/km ave pace. A great loop but very unforgiving if you are a quitter...

Big week of mileage at 140km, though pretty easy on the speed work front with a half-arsed tempo on Tuesday and an even poorer oval set on Thursday. Not the time of the year to think about quality.

Off to the Tommy H's Boxing Day feast this afternoon. Expecting to see good HuRTS representation, prolific banter and a focus on the quality of food.
