Kepos Street Kitchen, Redfern (13 September 2015) - Revisit II

Monday, September 14, 2015

Kepos Street Kitchen is diarised as a recurring weekend appointment, replacing the legacy Sunday church routine. The spicy, home-style cooking and excellent food-to-plate ratio empowers the humble $20 note.

Two reviews to date, Feb (8) and June (7.5). Are the chefs in a score tailspin?

Apparently not. Visit #3 recovers to 8.5/10. Today, a triple team of brioche, bacon and oozing egg yolk line the arteries with supreme velocity. I'm in good presence with the veteran (the missus) and brunch newcomer but B&E addict, Timmy L.

Masala chai tea with soy trumps an Ikea tea pot with a Twinings chai tea bag cheekly dunked inside.

Flat white from The Grounds. Teal tea set with fancy print explains the $4.00 'cuppa'.

Greatest challenge is self-restraint whilst photos are taken - this is Blogger etiquette. A great cross-section of familiar yet unfamiliar offers.

KSK egg and bacon brioche roll, chilli jam, roasted tomatoes and spinach - $15

Double egg dosage with a mass of caramelised bacon. Semi-charred bun protrudes a fried egg tongue. Beautiful.

Approach this with trepidation because the vertical being dwarfs the mouth. This is a messy affair but one with a happy ending. Unidentified eater is left with jam all over the left cheek. Not a good look (Tim).

Score wise, ignore the B&E traditionalists. Brioche is in. 8/10.

Wood fired smoked trout salad with soft boiled egg and dukkah - $19

Even life-long chain smokers could enjoy the smokey underbelly of this deep, woody marine creature. 2nd best trout salad in Sydney, after Lox, Stock & Barrel. Lucky Chinese 8 (out of 10).

Roast cauliflower fritters, chickpeas, smoked turkey breast and poached egg - $18

Double poach eggs perched atop smoked turkey and crispy roast cauliflower fritters. The pan is returned cleaner than out of a dishwasher. Corn is out, cauliflower is in. So filling, the 9/10 achieves dish of the day.

This bird's eye shot was taken atop a wooden chair.

8.5/10 breakfast assisted by the trifecta of experience (know what to order), good company (Timmy and Lorie) and extreme hunger (Sunday long run).

Top 3 brunch joint in Sydney. My personal guarantee.
